Japanese rock band amazarashi is releasing a new song titled “antinomy,” which is being used as the ending theme for the NieR:Automata Ver1.1a anime series. The song was released digitally on all music streaming platforms on January 15, 2023, with a physical CD release announced for February 22, 2023. A music video of the song was also released on the band’s official YouTube channel.
Amazarashi first collaborated with the NieR:Automata video game, during its initial launch in 2017, by releasing the song “Inochi ni Fusawashii (Worthy of Life).” The band members appear as additional characters in the game’s DLC content and original storylines.
Lead vocalist Hiromu Akita offered the following statement on the anime’s ending theme:
I collaborated with the game NieR: Automata in the past, and now I have the opportunity to work on the ending of the anime NieR: Automata Ver1.1a again. [I’m] really happy and appreciative to be able to work on this project again. I myself am only a fan of the Nier series, but I was honored to be given this role again, so I did my best to imagine a song that would be appropriate for the ending of Nier Automata, and I only hope that you like it.
I named the song “antinomy” to express the conflicts of the heart, such as when something you believe in is turned upside down in an instant, or when something you believe is good for you ends up hurting the other person. If we can convey the pain and hatred felt by androids and mechanical life forms, as well as the hesitation that comes with the existence of love, as part of the animation, I believe we will have done our part. Thank you.
NieR:Automata Ver1.1a first premiered on January 8, 2023, and A-1 Pictures is the main animation production company. The anime series is licensed by Aniplex of America and streaming on Crunchyroll worldwide, except in Japan.

The distant future, 5012.
The sudden aerial invasion of Earth by <Aliens> and their creations <Machine Lifeforms> led mankind to the brink of extinction. The surviving number of humans who took refuge on the moon to organize a counterattack using <android> soldiers to recapture Earth.
