FiiO Unveils K7 Headphone Amplifier With High-End Specs For Streaming Digital Music - Forbes

The new FiiO K7 headphone amplifier is an ideal way of listening to music at a desk or while … [+] relaxing late at night.
Listening to music with headphones is a great way to immerse yourself fully in a recording, especially if you’re streaming high-resolution audio from services like Tidal and Qobuz. The new FiiO K7 desktop amplifier is an affordable way to listen to digital music with headphones. It has a balanced six-stage audio circuit that consists of twin DACs, a low-pass filter, volume control, a buffer amplifier, pre-amplification and headphone output.
Throughout this six-stage signal path, audio signals from each channel are processed separately by the K7, reducing crosstalk and ensuring the music sounds as good as possible. Thanks to dual THX AAA788+ amplification, the K7 has enough power to drive both low and high-impedance headphones. High and low hardware gain levels can be manually selected from the front panel, enabling users to adjust the K7 to suit their favorite headphones easily.
Two AKM AK4493SEQ DACs power the digital-to-analog conversion stage in the FiiO K7 — that’s one for each channel. The K7 can handle digital audio files at up to 32-bit 384kHz and DSD256, thanks to the dual-clock management of the XMOS XUF208 decoding chip. The K7 has USB, Optical, Coaxial and analog RCA phono inputs for connecting to various streaming equipment or audio sources. There are 6.3mm single-ended and 4.4mm Pentaconn balanced outputs for connecting headphones.
The FiiO K7 has a large volume knob with a concentric LED that changes color to indicate the kind of … [+] file being decoded. There are also 6.35mm and 4.4mm balanced headphones outputs.
The large volume control on the front of the K7 has a ring LED that displays different colors depending on the audio sampling rates received. At 48kHz and below, the ring glows blue, while sampling rates above 48kHz show up as yellow and DSD files are signified by green.
An external 12V power supply powers the K7, while the amplifier’s internal power design architecture comprises multiple independent stages. Each stage’s voltage is regulated by low-noise low-dropout regulators (LDOs). In addition, intelligent DC protection systems stop the K7 from overheating and overloading.
At the rear of the FiiO K7 are digital inputs for USB, optical and coaxial connections. There is … [+] also a Line In pair of RCA phono plugs and a pre-amp output.
Pricing & Availability: The FiiO K7 desktop amplifier is available fnow and is priced at $199 / £189.
