Another batch of singer/songwriters will compete on “American Song Contest” tonight trying to win the country’s best original song.
“American Song Contest,” hosted by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson, will air at 8 p.m. Monday, April 11, on NBC.
Last week the National Jury chose Tyler Braden of Tennessee with his song “Seventeen” to move on the competition.
Tonight, viewers will learn the other three artists moving on from last week’s qualifying round.
The live singing competition features 56 artists representing the 50 states, five U.S. territories and the capital, Washington, D.C. competing to win the country’s vote for the best hit song, NBC said.
The show is based on “Eurovision Song Contest,” which NBC said has been “organized for 65 years by the European Broadcasting Union and watched by 200 million viewers annually …”
The competition consists of three rounds as the artists compete in a series of qualifying rounds, followed by the semifinals and the ultimate grand final where one state or territory will win.
A national jury of 56 music experts choose one winner from each qualifying round. Then viewers have until Wednesday morning to vote on the NBC website or app or TikTok to choose another three to move on. Those three artists will be selected by the jury and viewers and announced during the next week’s show.
During qualifying, 11 or 12 artists will perform each week. During the semifinals on April 25 and May 2, 10 artists will perform.
The grand final will be held on May 9 with the top 10 artists.
Already moving on to the semifinals are:
Tyler Braden, Tennessee
Broderick Jones, Kansas
Jonah Prill, Montana
Chloe Fredericks, North Dakota
Hueston, Rhode Island
AleXa, Oklahoma
Christian Pagán, Puerto Rico
Michael Bolton, Connecticut
Jordan Smith, Kentucky
