What is the new opening theme for Spy x Family season 1 part 2 called and who performs the new introductory song?
Spy x Family dominated the global anime conversation with its hilarious reaction posts, adorable moments and smooth action sequences.
However, one of the most talked-about aspects of the season’s first part was the music, notably the excellent opening and closing theme songs.
The anime will get a brand new theme song for the new cour, but what is the season 1 part 2 opening theme song called and who performs it?
The new opening theme song for Spy x Family season 1 part 2 is called “Souvenir” and is performed by the Japanese rock group Bump of Chicken.
The new ending theme song is called “Colors” and is performed by Yama, see end of second section.
As part of the promotional campaign for the new anime broadcast, the opening sequence was actually released a few days ago on the Toho Animation YouTube channel.
As of October 1st, a few hours before the premiere of Spy x Family part 2, the new opening theme song has been viewed more than 6 million times!
Tetsuro Araki, director of the opening sequence, responded on Twitter by saying “We are honored to have made a new OP for Spy Family” adding that “I was guided by a wonderful song and lyrics.”
Alongside confirmation of the new anime opening theme song, Bump of Chicken shared some comments to the official Spy x Family website.
The group revealed that “All the members enjoyed reading this work, so we were very honored when we received the offer.”
“I watched the first episode of the anime every week, and my heart was filled with anticipation for the second episode, but at the same time, I was determined to do my best for the theme song.” – Bump of Chicken, via spy-family.net.
Lead singer Motoo Fujiwara would add how “I wrote the song by comparing the feelings I have for the listeners I meet at the live concert venue to the road to an important place.”
“I can’t wait for the second course, and I hope to watch the activities of the Forger family together with you all. I hope you will enjoy our song “SOUVENIR” as well as the opening animation. We are all thrilled to have had such a wonderful animation done for us.” – Bump of Chicken, via spy-family.net.
Of course, we can’t talk about the music of Spy x Family without mentioning the fantastic closing theme song from cour 1.
“Comedy” was written and performed by Gen Hoshino; with more than 17 million views on YouTube.
The singer-songwriter recently sat down with All Night Nippon, translated via Crunchyroll, to talk all things Comedy.
“You hear the song every week in the anime series, and after you get used to it, you hear the original song and think, ‘Oh, is this what the song is supposed to be like?’. That’s when I get confused, and the song starts to get a little jumbled up in my mind.” – Gen Hoshino, via Crunchyroll.
“That’s why I decided to make the song sound complete in 90 seconds, without a single cut. I wanted to make it so the first verse ends at exactly 90 seconds,” he explained.
“If you choose to skip the intro, that’s fine. I don’t really have a problem with that. I like an intro, so I put it in the songs that I want to put it in. If I don’t like it, I don’t add it in. That’s how I feel.” – Gen Hoshino, via Crunchyroll.
